Rising out of the desert plain in dramatic colonnaded terraces against the sheer limestone cliffs of the Theban mountain, the Funerary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (1479–1458 BC) is one of the most perfectly sited monuments in Egypt. It can be reached by a rewarding 50-minute hike across the Theban Hills from the Valley of the Kings.
