Al Khyiamia (Tent Makers Bazaar)

The sole surviving gate from the old city's southern Fatimid walls (1092), Bab Zuweila's twin minarets offer the best views in Islamic Cairo. Below stretches the Souq al-Khayamiyya — the covered Street of the Tentmakers — where craftsmen still specialize in the elaborate appliqué work used to decorate mosque interiors and festival tents.
