A local would say...

Jules Verne wrote his hero jumping into this abyss — locals just use it as a backdrop for their morning coffee.

A 100-metre abyss through which the Pazinčica River disappears into subterranean passages forming three underground lakes — a natural phenomenon so dramatic it inspired Jules Verne's novel Mathias Sandorf. A viewing point just outside the medieval castle and a footbridge spanning the abyss 30 metres further on allow visitors to peer into the shadowy depths. Pazin's Castle (first mentioned in 983) overlooks the chasm and contains an ethnographic museum.
