The coppersmiths named this street 400 years ago and never left — their hammers are the city's oldest alarm clock.
The cobbled street to the east of Stari Most, named after the kujunžije (copper beaters) who have traditionally worked their craft here for centuries. The sound of hammering on copper — sometimes called 'Mostar's heartbeat' — drifts from the dark workshops where craftsmen still work. Artists' studios line the upper street while souvenir sellers offer Turkish-style wares and the terraced cafes above have perfect bridge views at sunset.
