A Disney-looking castle in the middle of Belarus — evidence that the Renaissance reached even here.

An impossibly romantic 16th-century castle in the small Belarusian town of Mir, 85 kilometres southwest of Minsk, once owned by the powerful Radziwill princes and now under UNESCO protection since 1994. The five towers, mixing Gothic and Renaissance elements, are reflected in the surrounding moat. Nearby, the Farny Polish Roman Catholic Church and the Radziwill Palace Fortress at Nyasvizh make a rewarding combination day trip from Minsk.
