Pyrgi, named after ‘Pyrgos’ meaning ‘castle’ in Greek, is a typical medieval village built as a castle-village invisibly from the sea to protect from pirate attacks. Almost all of the houses are decorated with geometric shapes using the Xysta technique. The lucky star motif was used under the balcony of many houses. t is said that Christopher Columbus stayed in one of the houses in the village before he discovered the Americas.

İsmini Yunanca “kale” anlamına gelen Pyrgos’tan alan Pirgi, korsan saldırılarından korunmak için, denizden görünmeyecek şekilde kale-köy olarak inşa edilmiş tipik bir Ortaçağ köyüdür. Evlerin neredeyse tamamı Xysta tekniği kullanılarak geometrik şekillerle süslenmiştir. Şans yıldızı motifi, bir çok evin balkonunun altında kullanılmıştır. Kristof Kolomb’un Amerika Kıtası’nı keşfetmeden önce köydeki evlerden birinde kaldığı söylenir.
