19. and 20. in the centuries, on the shores of Santander, children was diving into the sea to take precious things from the sunken or the ships. As the city was a port city, too many ships were approaching the coast every day. People who knew and saw these children diving very well were throwing coins which was called “perra” to the sea to watch their dives and see their money in their mouths. It turned into a show. The word ‘raquero’ comes from the word shipwrecker in English.
