Cross-Throwing Ritual: Blessings of Holy Waters
The Cross-Throwing ritual, an integral part of the Epiphany Ceremony, is enthusiastically embraced in many Christian communities. In this tradition, priests throw a cross symbolizing holy water into the water. Subsequently, some brave individuals within the congregation immerse themselves in the sacred water, attempting to retrieve the cross. The person who first finds the cross is rewarded with blessings and prosperity throughout the year.
In Istanbul, the Epiphany Ceremony and Cross-Throwing ritual, organized by the Greek Orthodox community, typically take place in various parts of the city. Locations such as the shores of the Golden Horn, the Princes’ Islands, Yeşilköy, Çengelköy, Kadıköy, and Büyükada have been among the historical venues for these events.

Epifani Kutlaması ve Haç Çıkarma Töreni: Kutsal haçın peşinden buz gibi sulara
Her yılın 6 Ocak günü, dünyanın birçok yerinde Hristiyan topluluklarında özel bir ayin ve tören düzenlenir. Bu gün, Epifani Töreni ve Haç Atma ritüeli ile kutlanır. Bu geleneksel etkinlikler, Hristiyan inançlarında önemli bir yer tutar ve bu özel gün, İsa’nın vaftiz edildiği ve Doğu Ortodoks Hristiyan geleneğinde ise Noel’in ardından Üç Kral’ın Beytüllahim’e ulaştığı gün olarak kabul edilir.
Epifani Töreni: Işığın Doğuşu ve Vaftiz
Epifani kelimesi, Yunanca’da “görünme” veya “ortaya çıkma” anlamına gelir. Hristiyan inanışına göre, Epifani Töreni, İsa’nın dünyaya tanıtılması ve vaftiz edilmesini kutlar. Vaftiz olayı, İsa’nın suya girmesi ve Yuhanna’nın onu vaftiz etmesiyle simgelenir. Bu, İsa’nın mesajının tüm insanlığa açıklanması ve kurtuluşun müjdelendiği bir an olarak görülür.
Haç Atma Ritüeli: Kutsal Suların Bereketi
